In 1990 a partnership was formed between two agencies which developed from a merger of Layman Insurance Agency, Inc. and Diener & Borntrager Agency, Inc. creating Layman, Diener & Borntrager Insurance Agency, Inc. on January 1, 1992.

Founded in 1952 by Emory Layman, the Layman Insurance Agency Inc. enjoyed a steady growth by providing quality service and products in property and casualty, personal and business, and life & health products.

In 1975, V. Eugene Diener founded the Diener & Borntrager Insurance Agency which provided group and individual life and health products.

Layman, Diener & Borntrager Insurance Agency, Inc. (LD&B) is Harrisonburg, Virginia's largest, locally owned agency, providing a full range of insurance and services to individuals and businesses in Harrisonburg, Rockingham County, and beyond.

January 1996 the ShenValley Insurance Agency, Inc. was established in Mt. Jackson, VA serving Mt. Jackson and Shenandoah County.  January 2009 ShenValley realized needed growth by opening a second office in Woodstock VA.

July 1, 1999 a satellite office to LD&B opened in the Park View Federal Credit Union. This office serves customers of the credit union and residents of the Park View community.

January 1, 2001 the purchase of a well-established agency, Estes Insurance Agency, Inc. extended our services further into the Bridgewater/Dayton area, and now serves from the office located in Bridgewater.

October, 2006 LD&B announced the acquisition of Showalter Insurance Agency---continuing two traditions of excellence in service and investment in the Harrisonburg-Rockingham, in surrounding communities and beyond.  Showalter is located in Harrisonburg (540-434-5931) , and Timberville (540) 896-6106. Both offices are currently operating under the name of  LD&B Insurance.

February 1, 2008 LD&B announced the purchase of a local insurance agency, Covenant Insurance Agency Inc.  Covenant moved into the LD&B Harrisonburg office and has a representative in the Park View Federal Credit Union, as well.
